Growing up as a LGBTQ black male, my life has been far from easy. I’ve worked minimum wage jobs since the age of 14 and struggled in school. I had a fairly easy childhood moving from California, where I was born, to Georgia due to my mother’s addiction. Oh, did I mention that my mother was a drug addict? That’s one of the reasons that we moved to Atlanta. She wanted to get clean, break the cycle and not make me a statistic, so she took us out of Cali and brought us to Georgia so that she could get into a Drug Rehabilitation Center. We stayed in a shelter for about a month and after that, she lucked up on a brand new center that accepted her AND me. I didn’t have anywhere else to go. See, my father was in prison. He says it was for a wrong decision but even Ray Charles could see that.! So he wasn’t in my childhood... until I was 16.. but that’s another story for another day. After our year stay in the Rehab program, my mother did everything she could to make sure that I had everything that I ever wanted and needed. She always worked extremely hard to provide for me and never showed me the lack that we were facing. She raised me in a single parent household with the support of the church in her back pocket. Licensed cosmetologist, custodian, line cook, rehab specialist, librarian- the list goes on... she was always working to provide the life that many could only dream of having. Now it’s my turn to work hard to provide a retirement life for her. So I created KS Beauty Depot.
Launched in May of 2020, KS Beauty Depot started as a dream. A prayer even. I wanted to build something that was form fitting for the average person. Beauty and apparel. That’s what the average person enjoys. Whether it’s 100% authentic or handmade for a special occasion, we all like to look and feel good at all times. So, I teamed up with a few people to get KS Beauty Depot started. We have everything from hair all the way down to t-shirts and cell phone accessories. There is not just one category that we sale here at the Beauty Depot.
